Code of Conduct
Last Updated: January 2026
Welcome to FEM Dance! Our goal is to create a vibrant, safe, and inclusive space where everyone can learn, dance, and connect. By joining our classes, workshops, or events, you agree to follow the guidelines below to ensure a positive experience for yourself and everyone in our community.
1. Respect & Community
Treat all students, instructors, and staff with kindness, patience, and respect. FEM is a space where everyone—from complete beginners to experienced dancers—should feel welcome.
Support your fellow dancers: celebrate their progress and avoid behaviours that disrupt learning or enjoyment.
Maintain good personal hygiene and wear comfortable, dance-appropriate clothing. Fresh breath, deodorant, and clean shoes go a long way!
Follow the class structure set by your instructor—do not give unsolicited corrections or demonstrations to other students.
2. Personal Boundaries & Safe Dance
Respect your dance partner’s comfort at all times. Physical contact, including holds, cues, and lifts, must always be consensual.
It’s okay to say no to a dance or move. Communication and consent are key to enjoyable social dancing.
Bullying, harassment, discrimination, or inappropriate advances will not be tolerated.
Only photograph or film classes or events with explicit permission.
3. Studio & Floor Safety
Look after yourself, your partner, and those around you. Be aware of others when dancing and avoid moves that could cause injury.
Inform your instructor of any injuries, movement restrictions, or health concerns before participating.
Avoid lifts or tricks unless part of a supervised choreography or explicitly agreed with your partner.
Keep belongings safe; FEM is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Keep the studio clean and tidy: water is fine on the floor, but food or other drinks are not.
4. Health & Participation
If you’re feeling unwell, please stay home. FEM reserves the right to refuse entry if attending may risk the health or safety of others.
Dance at your own pace and ability; classes are designed for progression, and everyone moves at a different speed.
By participating, you acknowledge that dancing carries physical risks, and you accept personal responsibility for your safety.
5. Misconduct & Respectful Community
FEM is committed to fostering a safe and positive community. Breaches of this Code—such as unsafe behaviour, harassment, or repeated disruption—may result in removal from classes or events.
We may work with other dance schools in Wellington to maintain safety and respect across the wider Latin dance community.
6. Raising Concerns
If you experience or witness behaviour that breaches this Code, please speak to a FEM instructor or staff member, or email us at femdancenz@gmail.com
All concerns will be addressed fairly, discreetly, and respectfully.
7. Celebrating Our Community
FEM Dance is built on respect, learning, and joy. Celebrate each other’s progress, support your partners, and enjoy every step on the dance floor!
